Mom is 84 and healthy, but has no will or advance directives. She wants the documents, but can’t afford a lawyer and I’m not in a position to help her financially. What if something happens to her? She has very little money, but her house is paid off and we don’t want to lose it.
-Pam, Port St. Lucie
Advance Directives help inform family and medical professionals of mom’s wishes for treatment if she becomes ill. A Will tells family and legal professionals her plans for the disposition of her house and other valuables if she passes away. Your best option for identifying mom’s legal needs is the Florida Senior Legal Helpline. This free service is available to Floridians aged 60+. Call 1-888-895-7873 (toll free) to schedule an appointment. An attorney or paralegal will call you back to discuss mom’s situation and offer guidance to resolve your problem.
