Dear Judie,
My daughter wants her grandma at her wedding. I don't. I'm very nervous about taking mom out of the nursing home. She's frail, confused, unpredictable, and needs constant attention. And what about a dress? My daughter is insisting and I want to make her happy, but not ruin the wedding for me. Do I have to invite my mother?

Dear Wedding Jitters,
Yes. This isn't about you. It's about your daughter's wedding and she wants grandma there. These three steps can help assure your mother's safety and your enjoyment:
- Hire a home health aide to dress and groom grandma and care for her all day. Have her visit a few times before the wedding so that grandma knows her. Ask the nursing home staff for the best size and type of outfit to make it easier for the aide to care for her needs.
- Arrange for someone to pick up grandma and the aide at the nursing home and take them back - remember, it may be too tiring for her to stay for the entire affair.
- Take pictures and enjoy!
