Dear Judie:

Six months ago I moved my mom who is 85 into an Assisted Living Community because she was confused and it wasn’t safe to leave her home alone. She did reasonably well until she started accusing me of selling her house and keeping the money. Actually, I did just the opposite, spending my money to pay for her assisted living, while paying her mortgatge, in case she will be able to go home again. Now I can’t even visit her because halfway through the visit she’ll start screaming at me. Should I bring her to live with me? I can’t take her attacks anymore.

Dear Francine:

You didn’t hurt your mom. Alzheimer’s disease is hurting her. Behavior management is one of the most difficult tasks for Alzheimer’s caregivers. If Mom needed more help than you could provide six months ago, bringing her to live with you now is not a viable option.
