It’s true what they say: age is nothing but a number. On Sunday, May 31st, Harriette Thompson showed her mettle by running the San Diego Marathon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for the 15th year. She’s run it every year since her 76th birthday, and only missed last year’s race due to cancer treatments.
Not only is Harriette a champ for running a marathon at the age of 91, but she is doubly so for being the second oldest woman to complete a marathon in the United States, and triple that with the fact that she beat the previous time record for women above the age of 90 by 45 minutes! Her total time was 7:24:36.
The former concert pianist is already planning her training regimen for next year’s race. She told the Charlotte Observer; “If I'm still here next year, I think I'll probably be able to train better and be in better shape”.
Harriette Thompson is an inspiration to people everywhere!
